We’ve got a couple more messages left through the Gospel of Mark before taking a break in this series, and this week we’ll be looking at Jesus’ interaction with a rich young man in Mark 10:17-31. This young man appeared to have everything: youth, wealth, and, according to his own self-assessment, he also claimed to be a decent person. From the outside, his life looked like one many would envy. Yet deep within, he carried a profound emptiness – one that no amount of possessions or good deeds could ever satisfy. He longed for something more, but was not willing to let go of what he had in order to receive what he truly needed: real, lasting life found only in Jesus. Join us this Sunday as we consider the true life that can only be found in Jesus Christ alone.

James 4:14b

I will find true life in Jesus when I…

…see his goodness (v. 17-20)

We need a right understanding of our Christology. Jesus is FIRST Lord and Saviour! Don’t fall into the error of thinking that following Jesus’ teaching and example is a nice, positive way to live. Come here knowing that you are a sinner with no ability to reach God on your own. Come broken and throw yourself at Jesus’ feet. [SLIDE 7] Come to receive grace: the free gift he offers of his own righteousness put on you. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, Saviour. And only then, once you have been saved by him, model your life on his.

Romans 3:9b-18

…receive his love (v. 21-22)

Jesus does not love like us. We love until we are betrayed. Jesus continued to the cross despite betrayal. We love until we are forsaken. Jesus loved through forsakenness. We love up to a limit. Jesus loves to the end.

…trust his saving power (v. 23-27)

Ephesians 2:4-9

…make him my all (v. 28-31)
