When you face an emergency, what do you do? Depending on the situation, you might just ask a family member or close friend to help you, but if you are facing a more serious medical concern, then you’re probably better off going to a hospital or clinic to get the best help. Either way, you won’t receive any assistance unless you first reach out and ask for it. This is how things work for anything in life. Asking gives you a better chance of getting the help and support you might need. Things aren’t so different with God. Sure, he can act before we ask for his help, but in most cases, he first looks for a response of faith from us.

Last week, we saw how Jonah chose to run from God, and that decision eventually landed him inside the belly of a giant fish. He spent three days in a place that would have been extremely unpleasant. It was probably dark, slimy, and smelly. Yet, it was in this most unusual place, at this point of his journey, and in his greatest distress, that Jonah finally turned back to God. Join us this Sunday as we go through Jonah 2:1-10 and discover why we, too, must cry out to God in our desperation.
