Salus Dei: Made Right by God
Generally, if you want something in life, you have to earn it for yourself. You want a big paycheque? You have to work. You want good grades? You have to study and put in the effort. You want to be in better physical condition? You have to exercise and stay disciplined.
Even when you’re doing all the right things like working hard, studying hard, or training hard, there’s no guarantee you’ll be successful. You can work your whole life and never make the kind of money you hoped for. You can study for hours and still barely pass. You can eat healthy, hire a trainer, work out regularly, and still not see the results you want. That’s just how life works. Nothing comes easy, and almost nothing is free. We have to try to earn what we want and accept that we may still not get what we were hoping for.
Now, I say almost nothing is free…because there is one thing that is free, and it happens to have the greatest worth: salvation in Jesus Christ. Instead of us having to do the work to get right with God, Jesus did it for us on the cross.
I encourage you to join us on Sunday as we continue our Made for More series, looking at Colossians 1:19–22. In this passage we will explore the Salus Dei (the salvation of God) and see that we are made right by God alone.

Christ is the only means by which I am made right with God, and so…
…I acknowledge him as my God (v. 19)
John 1:14
Hebrews 13:8
It is not our business to make the message acceptable, but to make it available. We are not to see that they like it, but that they get it.
– Vance Havner
…I accept his offer of reconciliation and peace (v. 20a)
1 Timothy 2:5
…I come to the cross on which he died (v. 20b)
Hebrews 9:22b
…I confess my desperate need (v. 21)
Genesis 6:5
…I rest in my new standing before him (v. 22)
The glory of Christian redemption is that it is in union with Jesus that we are given back our true selves. We finally begin becoming who we were truly created to be
