Foretold. Fulfilled.

Bible Text: Matthew 1:18-25 |
Campus:

We’re taking a break from our series in the Gospel of Mark for the next two weeks starting with this Sunday where we will be looking at Matthew 1:18-25.

Many of us are going to spend time with family and friends over the next week or two, celebrating Christmas and ringing in the New Year. Someone plans the gathering, someone hosts people in their home, someone cooks the turkey, someone bakes all the desserts…and sometimes that is all the same person! There is a lot to do for these Christmas gatherings to come together. So just imagine how much went into the coming and presentation of our Saviour Jesus, the Son of God, to the world! We are told through Scripture that the birth of Jesus was foretold, the reason being that he came with the great eternal purpose.

I must reckon with Jesus who…

…causes a disturbance (v. 18-20)

Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself. ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

…reveals his purpose (v. 21)
