When Jesus went back to his hometown during his ministry, he proclaimed to them the same gospel he had been proclaiming everywhere else. And as he did so, he gave all the proof and evidence they needed to believe in him. But for many of them, just like many still today, it wasn’t enough. To them he was just a man and just a carpenter. But he is so much more than that, he truly is God’s own Son! Join us this Sunday! We’ll go through Mark 6:1-13 and see how that when we receive Jesus and his Word our lives will be entirely transformed, and we will forever stand in awe of him!

When I hear and receive the Word, I will marvel at…

…the peace I find (v. 1-6)

Romans 4:25-5:1

The Bridge Course – Jan. 13 start, 12-week course, share a meal, than discuss and answer questions like, “Why do I matter?”, and “Who needs God?”, or “Why doesn’t God stop all the suffering?” or “How can a good God send people to hell?”, etc.

…the purpose I am given (v. 7-13)

As I get on mission, I must remember…
1) I represent Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
2) I must depend on him.
3) I will face rejection.

This action may be related to the rabbinic tradition of shaking the dust of foreign lands off one’s garments when returning to the Holy Land. The missionaries would thus be declaring the place of rejection to be pagan or “defiled.” Whether this is the background or not, the gesture is clearly one of disassociation, leaving that place to suffer the consequences of its rejection.
– Mark L. Strauss, Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament

…we serve not to convert –- we serve because we’ve been converted. This is a vital distinction…
